I just thought we need to bring our thoughts on resume issues, that are spread across a lot of threads, into one.
Issues:
1. Past relevant/irrelevant experience
2. Lying on your resume
3. Marketing yourself
Mark, I think you'll find this book interesting:
Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind This is written by 2 marketing genuises and intended for marketing folks, but there are a number of very useful chapters for everyone there, like Chapter 23: Positioning Yourself and Your Career.
When a person is looking for a job (s)he is trying to market and sell (her)himself. Your resume (and later, your appearance and presentation skills) are your selling points. So when creating a resume, it makes sense to think about what your potential employer would want to see. This is called "positioning".
I'll post more interesting (and related) remarks from this book later, when I get to a normal PC, where I can at leat copy and paste...

Here's a quote:
-------------------------------------------------
"What we have here is a failure to communicate."
How often have you heard that bromide? "Failure to communicate" is the single, most common, most universal reason people give for their problems.
Business problems, government problems, labor problems, marriage problems.
If only people took the time to communicate their feelings, to explain their reasons, the assumption is that many of the problems of the world somehow disappear. People seem to believe any problem can be solved if only parties sit down and talk.
UNLIKELY.
Today, communication itself is THE problem. We have become the world's first owercommunicated society. Each year, we send more and receive less.

-------------------------------------------------
Also, Chapter 10, The no-name trap, describes very well situation why miryad "technologies" Sun and others span out will not achieve a dominance on technology market.

P.S. I think that I picked wrong topic for this thread.
