Time it takes to find out if I got the job...

Hi,
I've just had a interview about a week ago and I have yet to hear back from them. I did send a thank you letter the day afterwards and I'm wondering if it normally takes a while for the company to make their hiring decisions?
Thanks
Justin

If it's been a week call them, ask to speak to the HR Manager and ask if a decision has been made.
They have a responsibility to inform you on their decision, even if its just 'a reply is in the mail'.

My suggestion is wait one more week to take the action. I do know that many Co.s take longer to make the decision for different reasons.

I also suggest that you wait longer. Remember this is vacation season. I waited 2 months after I interviewed for my present job.

In the future I would recommend asking if there is a time frame for a decision at the end of the interview.

How about if you ask about the time frame and let's say they tell you "One week - we should know next Monday or Tuesday". And you don't hear anything it that time frame. Is it appropriate to fire them an e-mail inquiring about the status of decision making process ?

Out of all the questions that I've asked, I neglected to ask them that particular question at the end of the interview. I'll keep that in mind for the future.

I say call and ask what's going on. Just say something like "I'm calling to reiterate my interest in the position and was wondering where things stand right now."
Don't pester them, because it won't help but you're well within bounds to simply call in a week to check in. (Or, if they have given you a time frame and miss it, call the day after their time frame has passed.)
I appreciate candidates who follow up. But then again, I never leave my good candidates hanging, even if I don't know anything yet.
Scott
