Have Java certs help you get a job?

I have seen many people keep passing certs, but I have seldom seen anyone got a job cez of these
certs. Could anyone who did this share your experience here? Its really frustrating you don't
see whats coming even though you work so hard to get a cert.

Get a cert is only a learning process.

It certainely helps you during an interview - especially if the interviewer is certified as well. They tend to ask very detailed questions.....but of course, having related work experience seems to be of greater value those days than certification alone.

Things have really changed a lot. 1 and half years ago, some companies even do not ask techinical questions during interviews, I know some people got into a pretty big company with no technical questions asked, and this guy only took
4 cs courses and ahd 2 year experience. Now people
with a masters degree and 2 year experience can get nowhere, no interviews, nothing, nada, nil.

Has certification helped me in finding a job? Yes.
I cleared SCJP in Jan 2000, which helped me to land on my first fulltime programming job in Feb 2000. Doesn't mean that Interviewer took everything for granted when I told him that I am certified, but that impressed him a lot. And the knowledge gained during certification preparation helped me throughout the technical part of the selection process.
Ever since Jan 2000, I have cleared 4 interviews (last in July 2002) and with each of them certification has been a plus point, but never the deciding factor.
Ashok.

I have attained java cert. I continue to get job offers. I attribute part of this to the cert - it really does give that final push.

I tend to agree, although I imagine that it depends on the sort of role you are going for. I think that as you advance your career and get more experience, the certs begin to matter less and less to employers.
Still certainly worth getting though!

My CV went to Concise (where Mr Brown works) and they didn't even offer me an interview.
However this job (UBS Warburg) really liked my certs and many people here are also certified (at least SCJP). So I guess it depends very much on the company.

Hmmm ... that's really odd, especially since you're SCEA.

All java jobs are at senior level, I guess certs
are virtually useless in this darn economy. Wish
Clinton will be elected again. Sigh.
