If you get two offers one in telecom domain and other in banking domain. Which one you prefer and why?(Assume both offers are similar in terms of pay, benefits, technologies used, reputation of company etc..). Thanks And Regards, Sridhar Garimella.

Well, first, I would say, consider what else the companies offer (in order of my personal priorities): 1) What type of people will you be working with? (boss, co-workers) 2) What type of career opportunities? Looking back 10 years from now, which job would have helped you get where you wanted? 3) What type of work will you be doing? What type of projects and technologies 4) What type of compensation (not just money, but other benefits)? 5) What about corporate culture, both in terms of your team and in terms of the overall company?
That aside, if you're talking about in the US, I would work for banking. Right now the telecoms are in a world of trouble and the entire industry is rather unstable.

Evaluate all the factors that Mark mentioned - it is a very personal decision and it really depends on your cereer goals. But judging by what is happenning in the telecommunications industry right now, I would go for banking - it may give you a bit more job stability if it's important to you...

Not at all--at least not here in the US (I don't know how the interview process works in India). When I interview, I try to meet at least a few of my coworkers. I certainly meet my boss. At some companies, they don't mind if you say, "I'm interested, but would like to meet the coworkers." By learngin to ask the right questions, and read people non-verbally, you can start to get and answer to these questions. --Mark
What are you interested in? Besides if you come from CS/Electronics & telecommunication background, you have better chances in telecom, otherwise banking is a good option. The reputation of company, and growth prospectus in the company, outside it should also be considered. HTH, - Manish
