Is there anyone in or going to Portugal? I wonder how the technology sector is going to be like in Europe in the next few years over which they'll implement the eEurope 2005 action plan (see http://europa.eu.int/information_society/eeurope/news_library/documents/eeurope2005/execsum_en.pdf).
But I'm writing to ask specifically about Portugal though. I'm thinking of moving there...

Hi,
I live in Spain, similar to Portugal, I think here you can have more or less the same employment opportunities than in other countries, anyway you can get a good job around here, even more if you have a degree and you are a good english speaker (I suposse you have some experience).
Anyway, things not differ much from other countries, there is not an IT jobs excess anywhere!.
I think sometimes, its more a region question than a country question, if you are in a big city you will have much more posibilities for finding a job.
Nevertheless, we belong to EU, and thats a warranty for Portugal's future, as it does for the other EU countries, now we have a more strong economy and so a better growing telecoms framework.
Hope this helps.

You can tell about IT industry in EU by watching IBM. I know for a fact they are in Portugal, as well as Germany and England. As long as they are doing well you could bet on IT industry in that particular country doing well aslo. Right now IBM is laying off people all over the map, including US and Germany (these 2 I know for sure). However, for instance, Hitachi and Siemens are expanding in Europe... Look for big-name companies in Portugal, and read their news, that'll tell you a lot.

Very good, thanks! One optimistic view about the future of Portugal and one great tip. Actually, I was already thinking of looking for a job with IBM if I do decide to move there. I'll start tracking how those companies do there.
