Embed a signature image in word doc or in PDF doc

Hi,
I am capturing a signature image from a verifone device in a bmp format. The size of the image is 3KB. I want to embed the image in a word doc or in PDF doc where all the place holder of signature (X user_signature) is present in the document. In short I want to replace the user_signature with the signature captured in BMP format. Also the alignment of the document should not be altered.

I would greatly appreciate if any hints are given on this.

Thanks
Murali

You can't really change PDF documents in this way (without using Acrobat Professional, that is).

As for altering Word files, your best bet is the OpenOffice Java API (see http://faq.javaranch.com/java/AccessingFileFormats for some links). Not an easy task, though.

It would be easier to generate a document on-the-fly (esp. a PDF or RTF) than to alter an existing one.
