Up 'till now I've never bothered mentioning JavaRanch - I've landed plenty of contracts without needing to. Now I'm beginning to wonder, though. Would my long-standing association with this site and its many thousands of visitors likely be of benefit?
Can I ask of the rest of you? Does anyone think they might have got a position because they mentioned JavaRanch? Does anyone think they might have lost one because they did (or didn't!) mention it?
How much might several years as a "Sheriff", and over 4000 presumably helpful posts be worth to an employer?
All comments welcome.

I think that I would mention it - it shows [Java] community involvement and a broader understanding of what's going on in the industry. (e.g. what's hot and what's not, etc)
Just my 2p...

I've got it on my resuem and on my last interview the interviewer that I spoke to mentioned that a lot of the people there had used the Ranch for their certification prep. From what he said ti was a favorable impression he had from so I would think that connotations out there are mostly positive.
Unfortunately I didn't have the experience to get the job. But, I think it helped.

Frank,
Just though I will add in my $.02. Depends ... if you are applying in a tech company it will be definitely valuable. If you are applying in an IT department it would be an irrelevant detail.

How vaulable would 4,000 posts be to an employer? Hmm, I wonder if there are any that would see that as "wow, he spends a lot of time goofing off on the web." Of course, you don't want to work for people like that, anyway.
I put my JavaRanch bartender staus on my resume. I think it can only help.

Mark,
I did not want to get very specific but that's what I meant by 'irrelevant detail for IT department'. Believe me there are a lot of IT departments who would not take it positively.

I'm still not sure, but I have now added it, and my participation in a few open source projects. We'll have to wait and see how I get on ...

It depends really. If it is two half years ago, they would be dying to get you. However, the timing is different, who knows what is in their heads?
Nowadays, they are trying hard to eliminate resumes. JavaRanch Sheriff on resume will certainly be noticed, but it can be the reason for either ways. Specially for contracors, who are paid by hours... If three people are decision makers, and only one is not in favor of the sheriff stuff, I think it could be fatal in the current job market.
I think that the OpenSource participation will only go the positive way though.
