I'm looking to write some java code that can make a call to a phone without needing a voice modem (I've actually done that with a JNI + TAPI). I think VOIP can help me here but I'm not sure. Does anyone know of any Java API's / packages that enable you to make calls over a non-voice-modem connection?

Hi,
The last two weeks i'm worked extensively on email/sms related projects . i have done a couple of projects which periodically send me an email/SMS about the cricket scores or stock quotes every 10 minutes . \
But now my passion turned towards
java code project that can make a call to a phone using broad band internet connection . But i have no clue on where to start with . If any body has an idea regarding this then please do mail me at vrakesh.techie@gmail.com .

Thanks a lot in advance .

Hi,
Could any one update this forum with the pointers to some sample code on how to start with the java project of making a phone call using broad band connection . It doesn't matter even if the call quality is bad . I just wanted to get started off with some research in this area .

Thanks

Hi Dan Bizman ,
In your previous post you wrote that you have done it using JNI + TAPI .
Could you pl. let me know in detail on how did you do that .
I have no idea in this area but i'm desperately trying to do
gain some expertise here . I just wanted some one to provide
me the much needed initial intro in this field so that i can build on that .
If you don't mind pl. do update the forum with some links which you may feel that
will make me to get started with some research in this area .

Thanks in advance

When I say I've done it with TAPI, I meant I had a voice modem attached to the computer and made outgoing calls through that. To do that I wrote my own C++ code to talk to TAPI (the only java implementation of TAPI I could find JTAPI was too buggy and missing a lot of features) and then used JNI to use it from the Java side.

However, I want to be able to make an outgoing call on a computer with an internet connection (via ethernet) and no voice-modem. I don't know if this is possible without a combo of expensive equipment and/or paying to be a VOIP host or something like that.
