functional vs. chronological resume

I am attempting to change from careers from providing technical support for networking issues to software development. It seems like a functional resume might be a better way to highlight my skills, but most of what I have read points me to sticking with a chronological resume. What do you think?

Hmm, interesting thought. Personally I think people are too rigid with resume formats (meaning, what HR wants); on the other hand, its important that they get some consistency for comparison.
Why not post both formats here, and let people take a look.

Not a bad idea. I haven't put much work into the functional yet. When I get it done I will post it.
