Does anybody know anything about the CISSP (security) certification?. Please let me have your thought/opinions about it. I am aware of Mark's aversion to certifications so please Mark spare us your comments about certifications. My concern is this, will this help to differentiate anyone who has it from the field of applicants. In my own situation, i already am an SCJP (since 2000) and an IBM certified systems expert on Websphere and i still feel threatened by the unsteady job market and globalization issues etc. Is this a worthwhile certification to pursue?

Well, a good friend of mine is a CISSP with about 20 years experience including 10+ running his own company.
He's unemployed right now.

CISSP is also one of the few certifications that require relevant experience in the field to qualify. I think the CISSP requires something like 3 years of experience in a security related field before you can even take the exam.
So unless you currently work in a security position it is not even an option, regardless of whether it is beneficial or not.

You clearly are not aware of my opinions. I have never been adverse to certifications. I dislike the SCJP, SCJD, and SCJA. However, I have found Oracle DBA certifications to be a useful indication of ability. I also find mechanical engineering certifications valid. etc, etc, etc.
I think many certifications can have value, just that the SCJ*'s do not.

Now that Mark's been dragged into this thread...
Any thoughts on the CSDP (IEEE Cert)?
