Jsp can be compiled during (got these from specs) 1.deployment time 2.at the first request to the jsp page can somebody explain the first one?

1. deployment time Use a < servlet > tag in your web-app to specify your JSP page and include its child element <load-on-startup>. In this case, your JSP page must be compiled at deployment time as the app server is required to load the servlet. This is as per the Servlet 2.3 spec. regds. - satya
