I am planning for the first time to look for MBA admission and this is my first writeup a few hours ago to test myself whether my english writing standard is satisfactory or not. So I suddenly sat down with paper and pen, wrote the following paragraph in 9 minutes emphasizing what I really beleive. After a while, I was checking how good or bad I wrote. I am almost shocked at the analysis of my findings. These are -
1. The hand-writing - it has become so so bad . This is only due to MS-Word and OpenOffice writer that kept me away from a full paragraph writing in hand(not keyboard) for almost 3+ years.
2. Word and phrase redundancy.
3. Poor vocubulary.
4. No sepeartion of introduction, content, conclusion etc.
5. Unclear statements/sentecnces.
6. Incomple sentences and abbreviations.
Please find some more problems and suggest me how to improve within a short time. For your information, Bengali is my mother toungue though I consider myself as fluent in both Bengali and English reading/writing. Even better would be write down a short paragraph within 10 minutes on the same topic, post it here and lets compare where did you improve and what did you mistake from my one.
Why Do I Want To Go For MBA
I thought I never have to go for anything other than ICT trainings. Though my basic education was in Economics (B.S.S.+M.S.S.), D.U., I had my concentration in IT since 1998. I completed a two years' diploma in software engineering from NIIT when it was a great time for IT professionals. Suddenly the industry got the shocking news of nine-eleven in twin-towers, Newyork that ultimately introduced a deep depression in world economy. As a result, IT was one of the most hampered sector where I had to struggle to survive. The situation is a little improving now-a-days and I think this is the perfect time for me to go for a managerial position through IT to catch up the coming scopes. As a result, the decision for doing MBA in IBA, D.U. came inevitably in mind. MBA in evening shift in IBA will still keep me eligible for working in my current profession without hamper. This is why I think the deciusion is optimum for my future career scope.

My writing skill is still at third grade level, at least that's why my friend tells me. Anyway, after a quick reading of your writing, there is a flaw in your argument that the event on 9/11 caused a global economic depression. You didn't show any fact or reason why it caused depression in current market.

I would not mention that you wish to study an MBA because you found the softwaree industry hard going. It's negative. You want to do an MBA because you always wanted to make the step into management and now is a convinient time. Otherwise it reads that the you are not fully behing gaining your MBA.

Thanks Tony. Reading the paragraph it may seem that I am dishearted with IT and so planning to switch my track to MBA, but its not true. Here again I could not express myself well. As IT situations were not favorable the past few years, I could not plan for anything other than gaining some technical experience in IT during this depression time. But as now the situation is improving, I am planning for more than IT to keep myself even in a better position in IT. I can't leave IT in any situation unless I am toatally unemplyed and here I am drawing a salary better than my friends who are in non-IT jobs, even during this crisis period.

Why not express this more positive like "I have actively broadened and deepened my technological skills through ITC trainings, personal research and certifications".

Good argument might be to say, that alongside your sincere interest in pure technological factors you have found to have special strength in communicational aspects of your work (intra team communication, with customers, with international expert networks in internet and being trainer).
I allways let my resume stuff check read by my younger sister who works in marketing. She allways replaces my "have special interest" with "have special strength" kind of sentences.

Some general comments...
I can't speak for all MBA programs, but if you hope to go to the top 10 to 20 schools you're going to need a more compelling story. (I recognize that this is only a first draft.) Saying, "my current job prospects suck, so I need an MBA" just won't cut it. They want to see that you are a born leader and that this is a necessary step in a well thoughout out career path. I don't know the admissions boards for the other schools look for, although the I think it's more common to say, "I did X, but now want to do Y and so need an MBA." Still, they want to see you moving to something (a new career) not away from something (bad job prospects).
I recommend the book "Your MBA Gameplan." (Disclaimer, one of the authors is a friend of mine. But this is the book I've been using.)
I'm not sure how to comment on your english skills. You could use improvement in your writing (but since I don't speak Bengali, you're already one up on me :-). I don't know what the standards are at most MBA programs. I'd recommend taking a practice TOFEL exam and comparing your score with what they publish.
