IT Jobs Down Under

Hi there,
I'm living in eastern Canada. I have a college education (Diploma for Computer Systems Management and Support) with Comptia A+ certification and Sun Certified Java Programmer Certification. I have a life long dream of moving to Australia and it appears that after much work and saving I'll finally get to go.
I wanted to reach out and ask if anyone, in the Java community, lives in Australia or has been spending time there, could tell me what the IT climate is like there? Since the IT sector here in Canada has been in a slump of late, I've been biding my time by teaching the Java language and Website Development at my local community college. So far, so good in terms of keeping myself employed and marketable.
Is there much call for Java Programmers (J2EE programmers) in Australia?
Any links to pertinent sites and info (newsgroups) would be welcome. I would especially like an ongoing communication with someone currently living in Australia so that I can develop a regular contact with whom I can facilitate a smoother job transition and emigration.
Regards,
Alan

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
