Hi all,
I have 4 years exp in software field( more than 3 years Java,J2EE experience)
and last 6 months I am working on PHP and HTML websites maintenance.( Getting monthly around 75000Rs I am working onsite).
I am thinking we don't have any good future with maintenance work. If we work on good technology like J2EE we can have better career. But salary will be less around 25000Rs at offshore I have to work.
What do u think? Any suggestions ?

Just curious, unless you are in banglore, not many companis would pay you around 50K for Java/J2EE with your 4 yrs exp.
Where are you working currrently?

I Think you better come to india.I had too worked in singapore. How much u r getting is not importnat, but how much you can save at the end of month is
important. If you consider this,75K INR in singapore is not so good salary.
I think with 4 years of Experiecne in java/j2ee, you can easily fetch more than 25K in bangalore & pune(Do not have idea about other city).
And ofcource, development is always better than maintanance.
My suggestion is relocate to India(Especially bangalore, Pune).Career in IT
in India is brighter than any country now a days. And most advantages is
you will be in your country with your family, people, food, relatives and friends.
As my experience say, EAST OR WEST, INDIA IS THE BEST.(For me )
Money should not be the only criteria in life.If there were no difference in USD and INR, how many indian would have gone to US?
I would prefer 30-40K INR job in India than to 100K INR in US.This is just my thoughts. After all, only you can best judge your decesion.

I agree with Himnashu on most counts.
1. J2EE/Java development would be better than maintainance work in PHP/HTML.
2. If savings are less in Singapore (I don't know the expenses there), 75K INR is an irrelevant figure.
3. I am bit confused abt sal stuff, I thought you meant 25 K less than what you are getting. You should get more than 25 K (around 30-40 K easily).
4. Finally you are in best position to decide if you are more comfortable with lifestyle in Singapore or India. You would be in the best position here o decide which is "the best" option for you.
Lastly, I would suggest to plan things - as in if you decide to get back to Java and quit this job, assess if you need to save "X" amount, and stay with PHP/HTML till you reach this financial goal. Since you have this financial goal, you'll be more at peace with yourself while doing PHP/HTML stuff(assumng you are bored with this work). Once you save the amount switch to Java/J2EE work. Take time, evaluate and options, make decisions and defer implementation if required till you meet your needs. It becomes easier to "delay gratification" once you've made your decision and working for some goal. Believe me, I learnt it the hard way.
HTH,

Just think..what are you after say 10 years..what will you be doing..
