Bill,
How good is JSF today compared to Swing? I mean, I have a client-server application that uses a couple of Swing features. We want to make it a Web application probably using JSF, but we cant tell so far if it will be able to do all the stuff Swing can ...

Well with the current render kit in the RI the functionality is no where near Swing. Basically to get Swing like UI's you should use an applet. However you can do a lot with JavaScript and other client side browser technologies. There is a potential that XUL could become something. If it does then you might be able to approach Swing.
But on a more basic level. I don't think we should be looking at JSF as a replacement for Swing but rather as a replacement for Struts.
Hope this helps!
