Navigation with in application

I am trying to find a proper and decent way of controlling navigation with in an application.
I am developing a simple application which presents a user set of screens to accomplish a given task for ex. transafer of funds etc. What I need is a kind of navigation control such that system knows which page user is in and where to go back. This is simple as long as I am dealing with 1 or 2 pages in sequence but it gets bit complex if dealing with more than 5-6 pages. Its also important for me that user cannot use browser cache, user should always get uptodate information from dabase whenever back button is used, how can I accompish that.
My current application store all the previous urls user has used (using Vector) and use it to idenfity which page I am in and where to go back. I have to define a start link on which I clear this vector. I am need of some other solution which is clean and easy extendable.
Can anybody points me to any such solution.

I've never used this extension presonally, but Struts workflow extensions seems to encapsulate what you're trying to do...
