i have a list box with range of departments like 10-30 10-20.

I have to display a master detail report like

dno 10 dname aqqqqq

eno ename
1 a
2 b

dno 20 dname eeeee

eno ename
3 aa
4 bb

Using sql I get info like this

dno dname eno ename

10 aqqqqq 1 a
10 aqqqqq 2 b
20 eeeeee 3 aa
20 eeeeee 4 bb

What is the best way to store them in my java program
so that I can easily retrieve in my jsp in the desired format
and display as report with minimun code in jsp.

Use a reporting software to do that job like Crystal Reports or JReports.

Use inet crystal clear to use Crystal Reports with Java. Search through google for that.

Before jumping to a reporting tool, what are u looking at.. what is the ideal data-structure for storing such information? or how best to store in session or whatever ?

Storing it in JSP (session/request-attrbute) for future pages does not sound like a wise option to me, since data can grow & make the application really unscallable.

If u still need a datastructure, i would go for a dictionary keyed by department no ept name.. The value could be an array.

Oh by 'dictionary', I just meant a dataStructure type.. Did not mean any Java Object... My thought was similar to the lines of a HashSet or hashtable
