i wonder if there is any other way of printing a report in a JSP without making an HTML page. just retrieves data from database and simply generate an HTML/XML/else page contains the data that is store in a certain format. something like creating a report in a JSP page, but not in a PDF or Excel format.

thanks for the assistance.

"bj heat",

We're pleased to have you here with us here on the Ranch, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!

Yea, that one's tough to read.
Are you saying that you want to:
Display it in a format other than HTML, such as Excel or PDF?
or that you want to:
Read from an Excel file or PDF and display it as HTML?

first i apoloogise for the hard-to-read question that i posted i was trying to make it as simple as i can, but it seems become confusing. once again i'm really sorry....

OK here's the story : i have created a report of my own in an HTML format, because we (the team who developed the application) have decided not to create a report in an Excel nor PDF. for note, this report i'm talking about is a printing version of HTML page to be printed on our company forms paper. so the company have its own format of form paper and we are demanded to fill out that forms through the application's print menu

and there u go, we now already have that report of our own in an HTML format, but as we all already know that creating such a report in an HTML format is such a time-wasting effort, u know...getting a text to its proper position, aligning text so that it can fiil in the forms precisely, etc. so i wonder if there is any other way to create such a report beside what i already did....

i hope it's clear enough if it isn't please don't hesitate to ask
thanks a lot for your help i really appreciate it.

since we used a client-server application we are planning to have a very minimum computer specification on the client side (even diskless if we have to), therefore we can not install a PDF reader on the client side which will be using the print menu.
actually it's OK if there isn't any other way than creating an HTML page, i'm just curious n very much interested in finding a much faster way. as far as i reckon, i haven't found any other way instead of creating an HTML page for the report, so i was hoping for a JSP/Java function or procedure to make the task more efficient
if there's isn't any better solution than creating an HTML page nowadays, please inform me when a new technology comes up with the solution

thank you very much for your attention
i really appreciate it

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
