How's BMC software? As in what sort of work they do in India and how's the work culture? I have heard that most of the work in India is more or less of Maintenance/Support type, at least in Java. Is that true? Also, I am more comfortable in informal, flexible work culture, is BMC too formal? I am interested because the company seems stable (big name always helps) and salary offer is quite tempting.

Hmm,those two big blue 6 storey buildings on Senapati Bapat Road!As you said I too heard work is mainly maintenance-support.But if you see BMC history it has the habit of purchasing successful companies.Few months back, they used to put banner outside their building "C/C++ MFC programmers required" 'insiders'news is they are not getting those kind of people.I had been there for few days(for business visit last year).Work culture seems good.Food was great[In the morning ,some tempo comes and men put fruits,Bakarwadi and every kind of snacks on each floor and hungry single men like us rush there!!].
I advise,if salary is good, join the company. They have offices in some 35-40 countries I think.BMC Patrol product is quite popular. In terms of stability, its good. They have many products to work on.

Cap,

I thought you were in Banglore. But you seem to be pretty updated abt Pune.

I have refused even better opportunities and better names in the past for various reasons, so want to make sure that this is "the" company I'd join. whichever company I join noew, I'd like to stick around for at least next 3/4 years. So I want to be sure.

BTW, Cap I guess I know you. Mind disclosing your name by a PM?

I use my real name, so if you know me, you know that you know me!
As for your name, you're using "obviously fictious name", so you could be one of the guys I know, but I can't name! Amit, Samir, Ravi, Sadanand, Anand...???

Anyway, any other inputs about BMC from others?

Never met anyone working in BMC but as per the general perception, it's a decent "product based" company.

and you have a symbiosis near to BMC, so can have fun in the evenings :0)

Let me be specific in my question so that I can have a better idea about BMC's work culture.

(1) Do they have internet access for employees on Desktop
(2) Are you allowed to download, install and try softwares easily. Is that sort of learning encouraged?
(3) Can you play music on your desktop PC?
(4) Flat level organization or otherwise? How open are PMs with develoopers, Sr developers...
(5) Any specific dress code? Not that important...

Well, that sort of things about the organizatio culture. As for products, I know they have a decent products; but want to know what sort of development their development center here is doing? It's not uncommon for bigger companies to treat center here more like a support team.

Wish I knew somebody there!

Yes, I know, but my situation is same as Manish and I thought why start a new thread and ask all over the same questions there, so i have asked here.
I too want to know answers to all questions Manish has asked with respect to IBM Bangalore.

Is it IBM software labs or global services? I thought your friend recieved the offer but now it is clear that you have received it.
