Online articles and tutorials... If you are good in finding online free resources in learning a tech... This would be the cheapest way to get into J2EE...
Also, is there any freely available IDE for Enterprise Java?
Of course, Eclipse is known as the best free IDE for J2EE...
Which certification route is best?

I would be interested to hear your views on the balance between Standard and Enterprise Java in the UK job market. Should I take the plunge with J2EE or stick with J2SE?
I'm not sure about the Java jobs in U.K. But in Thailand, which I am currently residing, if you know only SWING and J2SE, it is very less likely that you will get a job... But there are a lot out there for J2EE positions...
As for me, I used to be a die-hard fan of SWING and AWT, but the job market forced me to get into J2EE... Now I should be having fun with J2EE, even though I do like SWING and GUI stuff more than J2EE....
