Fine, next time I have some tool useful for GUI developers, I won't bother posting it in these forums.

As this seems to be a complaint about forum policies (got someone moved to blatant advertising, or what?), I'm moving this to our JavaRanch forum, which is reserved for such meta discussions.

That's definately your choice to make. We do have a perfectly good forum for announcing useful tools, products, etc called Blatent Advertising. It was specifically created for posts like yours. I find it curious that you seem to have taken offense to me moving your post to the appropriate forum.

In fact, Gregg was pretty magnanimous about it by leaving your original post in the SWT forum. Most misplaced ads are moved to BA without leaving a free ad in the original forum.

We appreciate your wanting to share your tools with others, but in the same way that we want questions and answers to be put in the correct forums, you need to announce your tools in an approriate manner.

The problem might be the way it is sent away.
Gregg said : "Off to Blatent Advertising".
It sounds like removing some unwanted dirt on your desk.

Looking at an online dictionary :
blatant
1. Unpleasantly loud and noisy
2. Totally or offensively conspicuous or obtrusive

That may be why somebody, who thinks his tool could help, takes offense at being sent to a 'blatent advertising' forum.

Why is it called this way ? It could be called something like 'Useful tools'.

Looks like people who like to help others end up being mocked at.

Randell,

The only reason why Gregg Bolinger moved your post was, so that people who look for tools and stuffs like that, go to blatant ad and search the thread.

Fine, next time I have some tool useful for GUI developers, I won't bother posting it in these forums.

Written communication may create problem, since you can't show your expression.... say for eg, if my supervisor asks me " Hey vishwas... Give me the status of Project A" orally, It might not sound bad or rude. Same thing if its sent in a mail " Give me the Status etc", many people (Even I) tend to feel like, its a rude order or what ever...(it could have been asked like this, " could you send the status of proj A, by End of the day.. some thing like that....)
but fact is that the supervisor might not have meant that.

So bottom line is Gregg might not have tried to offend you by saying "Off to...."

Let me tell you, you won't find a friendly place like this anywhere...

Regards
Vishwas

Good point. I am sure that when the forum was first created, it was out of necessity because someone or someone's kept posting irrelivent ads in the regular forums. Out of annoyance came the term Blatent. As time went on though we've had some really good products pop up in there so now might be a good time to consider a name change.

I'll bring this up with the powers that be and we will discuss it.

I picked the name.

And we had some people schlepping their stuff, so they did it there. If somebody wants to get upset about the way I run this joint, they are welcome to get upset. If they wish to persuade me to change my evil ways, they can give that a whack too.

Right now I like the way things are and I have two important things to share:

    1) Good job Gregg.

    2) I like pie.

I must say that's a pretty whiny observation. So what if one person doesn't see the value of another person is saying? It's not the end of the world.

A site like this would never continue if its volunteers were upset by every criticism or rejection of their ideas. We're not here to enforce a politically correct niceness on everything that gets said. We want the site to be a friendly place, but that doesn't you have to smile and gladhand others at every turn.
