Hi all,
I would like to ask a question to those of you who are working in the UK. My question is, would it be a good idea to get a working holiday visa so that I can spend my holiday and at the same time take up a Java job in the UK. I have no knowledge about the current state of the java job market over there. I have been working with Java (SWING,RMI,JDBC,JNI,JAXP etc.) for the last 3 years and I am Sun certified java programmer, web component devloper and business component developer. I dont know if that is enough to get a job.
I see a lot of helpful posts from many of you guys here. So, I hope to get a good response on this.
Thanks in advance,
Suman

Thanks Marcus for providing the link. I see a lot of Java jobs in this site. I am not sure though whether it's possible to get one of those once I am in UK.

If you don't have a work visa, I don't think you have much chance. Unemployment is still rather high amongst java developers. Also, certifications don't really count as much as real experience.

Suman,

I have been working in UK for 2yrs and I live in London. IMHO its ok if the main intention of your visit is holiday and finding job is an option but vice versa is not a good idea.

Hi Sridhar,
Yes, I do want to spend a holiday. I mean, I have some money to spend on my holiday but I am afriad I might not have enough. So, I guess a job is necessary for me. I also do not have any idea about how much money is needed to rent a house for a month or for food.
But I want to thank you for replying and giving me suggestions.
Regards
Suman

Hello Shridhar,

Where are you working in London? Are you into Java?

Suman,

I dont have idea abt cost of living in other cities in UK but London is the second most expensive city if I'm correct. It would be good if you could manage to find an apt where you can share for 1 month.

Tina,

I'm not into java at present but I worked on java for couple of years. Now I'm working on C++ in interest rate derivatives area.
