Can anyone give me advice on becoming a HL7 Specialist? I have 8 years experience as an IT professional in healthcare. For the last 4 years I have been working on an old legacy/MVS product. Its going south 5-7 years from now. My problem is that if I continue in this position when they do take it away then I'll be obselete in the job market.

So I'd like to combine my programming knowledge with HL7 to move on.

All advice appreciated.

Hi, heard that HL7 certification is one of the valuable thing, which is a good value addition to our career. I would suggest you to prepare for that and take up that. Then combining ur tech knowledege with HL7 is also a good move. Once u become HL7 specialist, then u wont be putting into the old areas/projects.
As a HL7 Certified professional, i strongly suggest u to become HL7 specialist. If u find time, give a look into IHE profiles. IHE and HL7 are having good value in the job market too (in healthcare domain).
