How to link out on jsp

The user is currently on webpage address http://server101/logon/logon.object. I do not understand why whenever I redirect out using a response.sendRedirect(./ao.jsp) or using a <a href="http://server101/logon/ao.jsp">link</a> the link on the address bar of IE remains the same it does not refresh the address bar so basically it remains http://server101/logon/logon.object. Also if the user hits refresh it goes back to the old address http://server101/logon/logon.object.

Well anyway, is there a solution to permanently link out, so that the address bar actually shows the new address, and hitting refresh actually refreshed the curret page, and not take the user back to the previous page. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
