Send images as zipped(compressed)

Hi,
I'm looking as how to approach for this problem:

User has selected (say 5) images using browse button in JSP Page.
Now these files at client side...
We have to save these files in DB(saving is not issue)
But file transfer from client to server should be in zipped(compressed) and unzipped on server to save one by one.

Any suggestions?

The user will have to zip the files before the upload. There is no facility in HTML or Javascript to zip the files on the client side.

If it is a requirement to perform the zip on the client side, you may have to look into active client technologies such as applets (signed) or ActiveX controls (Windows IE only), or write a fat client application to do this.

i dont think there is any need to zip the file bcause u can transfer the file directly to client

yeah i u want to do that then

i give u logic

dont unzip at client side zip it at sever side and store it into database as zip format and when u want it to access from sever unzip it at server side and then send the file to client

pawank gupta, JavaRanch is a community of people from all over the world, many of who are not native English speakers. While using abbreviations like "u" instead of spelling out "you" is convenient when text messaging your friends on a cell phone or in a chat room, it presents an extra challenge to those that are already struggling with English. Additionally, such shortcuts may confound automated translation tools that patrons of the Ranch may be making use of.

I would like to ask for your help in making the content of JavaRanch a little easier to read for everybody that visits here by not using such abbreviations.

Please read this for more information.

thanks,
bear
