Hi
Hello fellow ranchers. I have been pondering about the kind of Jobs one can get with one's SCJP. I know SCJD is highly priced(I think it's so because of what it takes to get it), but one should not forget that to get SCJD you need SCJP. I want to know what kind of Job one can get with the SCJP certificate and probably matching salaries. Thanks
Saheed.

I dont think these xams are about jobs.
I hope these xams make one smarter in Java.

Getting a job is upto you.

And how well you market yourself and a lot about being at the right place at the right time.

Is what I think.

Wonder if anyone made it big by doing certificatins?

But they do help you to answer questions properly in job interviews or written tests.

The market places very little value on a cert. With SCJP you are qualified to wash dishes in US.

Its been my experience that every employer wants you to have past work experience in whatever position they hire for. Therefore a SCJP cert will not even qualify you to wash dishes... Now if Sun made dishes and had a SCDW (Dish Washing cert), if the decision to hire was between you and someone without the cert, you would still lose. Anyone motivated enough to get the SCDW wouldn't remain a DW for long would be their argument...

hello,

with just SCJP you can't do much. I read some threads in the SCJD-forum, and I see that many ppl who are already SCJP are not capable of writing good real world applications. (Though most of them are well aware of their strong and weak sides and will fix the weak ones soon.) I am SCJD, but I still have to improve a lot, too.

When someone is already good at OOP, for example an experienced C++ programmer, the things required for a good SCJP score are most of what he would need to do what he did before in Java. In some threads I read about programmers who got a new job and who had been asked to do the SCJP exam, because they did not work with Java before.

Some companies do give preference for SCJPs. But that doesnt mean u can have SCJP and no experience. There are no specific jobs carved out for SCJPs. But if u have the required technical skills and relevant experience, SCJP will definitely give u a boost.

You will have a better chance than fresh college graduate who has no working experience. With the cert, you have proven to have a basic knowledge about Java and plenty knowledge that not used in real world. Second, you have shown you passion toward the technology. I think enthusiast towards a particular technology is the most valuable. So, with the cert. you have a better chance of getting into any programming jobs industry (not just java).

I agree w/ kay Liew, with SCJP can get you any programming job!
I got mine SCJP about three years ago... end up working with VB/VBA

Now I slowly push the "Java" part of my skill into my work place. It's not easy to get manager to try new things. also nice to have additonal skills.. Certificate is always great way to show you have "learn" about a technology.

Best of luck,

Bob
