I need to put a newlin in jsp:expression

I have a JSP using an arrayList. I am using:
<jsp:expression>
response.getAttribute("list")
</jsp:expression>
I want to put a line break between each entity of the "list". I get the information but it is all on one line. I have tried to concatenate a \n. and I tried a <br />
