In the past few years, I somehow had an idea that I should go for the server side of the Java technology because Java matured on the back-end. Recently, I found
1. There were many Swing job opportunities in the New York City after the revive of the job market from a 3-year long recession.
2. The company, which I helped with some web site building work in the autumn this year, needed a number of people to do Swing programming.
3. Another company that works on a Government contract to development applications for goods to pass the US custom also needs help with the Swing.
Is Swing important in web/software development? Is it the trend?

Swing is not important in web development. It is important in software development.
There are a growing number of Swing jobs out there, but web development experience counts for very little in that market. They will be looking specifically for Swing experience - preferably years of it.
