Servlet - Request Path MApping doubt

Hi..

We know that we have (in precedence order)
1)Exact path
2)directory
3)and extension

Here is something i found in an exam simulator

A string containing only the '/' character indicates the "default" servlet of the application. In this case the servlet path is the request URI minus the context path and the path info is null.

do we really have anything called default mapping..

if so can someone please explain it...

Thanks
