1) when importing in a JSP and importing (let's say java.awt or other java classes) where are these classes stored?
2) I want to download JFreeCHart. In which directory should I extract the zip into?

I'd appreciate any helpful responses. Thanks in advance.

If these libraries are shipped as jar files the jars go in WEB-INF/lib
If you're going to unpack then the class files go under WEB-INF/classes/PACKAGE-STRUCTURE/

They're in a jar file that's part of the JRE installation. They shouldn't be moved around or un-jar-ed.

That greatly depends on the platform and implementation of the JRE that you are using.

The JRE does include the source code to the class libraries, though, which comes in handy if you need to understand more about a class than what's covered in the javadocs. Hunt for a file called src.zip or src.jar.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
