JSP files, filter chains and pre-compiling...

Referring to Tomcat if there's no standard for this....

When a request comes into your container for a JSP file, the filter chain first runs, then where does the chain end? I mean, can you manually invoke whatever command compiles and dispatches a JSP file without actually having to pass the URI to the servlet container?

These are spec driven platforms.
There are links to both the servlet and the JSP specs in my signature.
