I have a doubt. In <jsp:useBean> body-content we can use scriptlets.
But i believe usebean is also a custom tag and i have heard scripting inside the custom tags is not valid.?

It depends upon the type of custom tag and how it is declared.

Ok. But the body-content of a custom tag is JspFragment right? (After translation). i guess JspFragment cant have scripting code inside them

Only for JSP 2.0 simple tags and for tag files (which are implemented using simple tags). Classic tags can continue to employ scriptlets (if you must ).
