i am doing a project in java wherein an email(greetings) has to be sent if today's date=birthdate(stored in backend).how to send it automatically.i would also like to know if i can send mail by pressing a button

my idea is run a thread with the waiting time of couple of hrs.Every time the thread run it can compare the date in the database with the system date.If it matches it can invoke a servlet and pass that detail(date,name,email address) which will send emails.
I hope this will work out.
