Using the oracle thin client driver....
1. What is the best way to invoke a stored procedure?
2. Looking for a good book... need to figure out how to write
oracle stored procedures.

We usually call Oracle stored procedures something like:

Sorry but can't help on a good book as someone else actually writes the procedures that I use. Doesn't look to hard to figure out, though.

All of the Oracle Press books with the grey covers are good.
The is one on PL/SQL which cover what you need
