I was wondering if the book addresses any database design issues.
Does the book have chapters about object and relational db?

Andrew,
in fact, it does.
Chapter 4, Data Modeling, covers database design and data modeling; chapter 5, Database Concepts and Techniques, covers the fundamentals of relatonal databases; and, finally, chapter 10, Java and the ODMG 3.0 Specification, talks about object databases.

Sounds like a sweet book!
I'm pretty with it as far as JDBC goes as an interface to a SQL server, but I could use a lot of polish on the design side.
If you don't mind me asking, Bjarki Holm, what is your background? where did you get your experience, etc?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
