Its a bit unfortunate, that career progression is being measured in terms of salary and not vertical growth.

Nevertheless, the matrix you provided is more or less true. Like I said in one of my mails, the ratio is 1.2*years and does seem to work for especially the mid experienced people. Initially salaries may be higher coz 1.2 is a paltry sum to start with and after 6-8 years, the paths really digress a lot and very much dependant on the individual and how far he has gone.

Hi All,

Yes its really everything is measure in terms of CTC drawn especially in IT industry.Nevertheless, speaking about career progression i would like to add that designation wise 1 can move ahead in the following fashion :

1.Software Executive (jr/Sr)
3.Team Lead
4.Project Lead
5.Project Manager.

Dunno where to go after PM level may be Program Manager or something else .But where does the Tech Arch fits in?And How about being CTO of an IT company?I would like to know wat additional qualification is required to be CTO of an IT company.

Leena,

Team Lead / Project Lead / Tech Arch all fall at the same level. So I would put it this way -

1.Software Executive (jr/Sr)
3.Team Lead / Project Lead / Tech Arch
4.Project Manager.
5. Group Head / Account Manager / DU Lead / Group Lead / Senior Manager
6. Director
7. VP / CTO / CIO / CXOs
8. CEO
9. Chariman

beyond Project Manager, qualifications are all managerial, interpersonal skills, relationship and lots of undocumented, ambigous qualities. SAB MOH MAYA HAIN
