Learning any other language apart from your own and of course English, is always useful whether you are in IT or not. Sometimes a few IT job ads do mention that fluency in French, German, Dutch or Japanese is essential.
I heard from one of my fellow mates that in some projects in Germany, everything is in German, right from the requirements spec, design
doc and
test plans etc...The OS is in German! They spoke German and didn't use English language at all!.....
Recently I met a Weblogic instructor in the UK, an Englishman who spoke Hindi Fluently! He said he had worked before, in Bangalore & Bombay(India)for 1.5yrs as an offshore consultant for a few projects. He also said, he learnt Hindi in just 3 months. I had a couple of technical questions in weblogic, and much due to my amazement, he answered all of them in Hindi!!!....I felt happy and impressed!
