Grateful if you can let me know if there is anyway I can query the last update date stamp of a table using SQL or other means. Is there another table in a database that keeps track of the table information?

you can use a correlated subquery:
"select id, name, hiredate from emp where hiredate = (select max(hiredate) from emp)"
I'm pretty sure this is the same for DB2 also
