Hello friends,

I have three years of IT work experience, and am presently working for a small product based company in Bangalore. During last two weeks I took off from my work and started applying for jobs, and hence have landed up with three offers! Please advice me which one should I pick.

Accenture 3.6
LogicaCMG 5.5
ITC Infotech 4.6

Many thanks,

Pooja Sharma

I joined Accenture a month back. My experience with Accenture is
1. They pay considerably less than any other company
2. The work that I have been assigned is pretty useless. Once you are assigned a project they are not going to change it. Mostly there work consists of maintenance and support.
I am planning to leave Accenture after just 1 month here,so I won't advice you to come here.
I don't know about the other 2 companies.

LogicaCMG: British offshore company.Support and maintenance work.
If you do not want support/routine work, join Indian startups instead of joining offshore shop.Ofcourse you can not expect coffee/tea vending machines and people with attractive dresses there.

Sound advice indeed!!! And expect a bit of compromise on infrastructure as well -- don't expect dell/compaq machines there.

But most ppl with lesser expthese days just consider 2 things --
(1) Pay
(2) Onsite opportunities.

Anyway, avoid accenture -- I don't know about rest.

I cleared the accenture interview a month back and they told me that they'll call me in a couple of days to make the offer. But haven't heard from them and its more than a month now. They didn't even bother to reply to any one of the numerous mails i had send them. Another surprising thing was they made all the correspondence from Yahoo accounts and not Accenture accounts.
Now I have totally dropped the idea of joining Accenture even if they make an offer and started search again for a new job.

I found the HR is quite blackmailing. Once I got a mail from Accenture HR saying that: they received my resume and if I wont reply to their mail within 2 days they will blacklist my candidature.

I found that mail very unprofessional.

I guess HR is the same everywhere, rude and arrogant.
I remember attending a test conducted by Quark (MNC near Chandigarh), a couple of years ago . I couldn't clear the written test and HR came and told me, "How could you even dream of working with Quark, You couldn't clear even a 8th standard aptitude test".
All this instead of "Sorry you didn't clear the test".
Is there any other reason for avoiding Accenture apart for the HR thing.

Plenty of reason...

(1) They are not at all ethical company -- they laid off thouands of employees during 2002-2003 in the US when they were planning to start it big in India, if they do it there, they will do it here when cheaper outsourcing is available. Many other companies might do that, but accenture was least professional/ethical/senstive at that time. If you cannot treat human resources humanly, I have no respect for such company. Check out BB posts during that time.

(2) I know two cases personally who were offered job in 2003, they resigned and accenture revoked the offer. One guy was jobless for 2-3 monhs before he joined another company.

(3) Their avg technical caliber or assessment process during interview -- pahetc to say the least! And how does itmatter? Well, you should expeince it under dumb, non-technical boss who simply cannot appreciate/asses the technical caliber and quality of a code taht u write -- provided you have tha caliber and you take pride in quality of your code. But this is pretty common in many big companies including K*****, S*****, M** ; but I'd personally stay away from such companies irrespective of their brand-equity.

Many other ppl might have more reason to tell you, but even one of these reasons is enough for me to blaklist that company.

This is similar to my story. I got an offer from Accenture. Resigned from the current job , bought the plane tickets and then received a mail that they had decided to revoke my offer for reasons best known to them. I called and mailed numerous times but they weren't even intersted in talking. They were extremely unprofessional and left me without a job for 3 months. Finally I had to take up a job for a salary lesser than the job I resigned from.

Why hide the name of these companies when there is no problem naming Accenture. Mentioning the names of the companies you think are unprofessional will definetely help others. We can be more careful while dealing any of these companies.

I has been to Accenture interview a year back. The process started in the morning at 9. They had a written test, GD, 2 tech rounds , HR interview. At 9pm I was called for managerial interview. First question was What would i like to become after 5 years. I replied I would be interested to become an Architect. I think he did not like this. The next question - How do you compare Weblogic with Websphere ? I had no experience with Websphere. I said I cannot compare. He said - How can you become an architect when you dont know Websphere?

I have heard many others having similar experience.

Not justifying Accenture at all, but trust me this can take place anywhere. Often you're assessed based on prejudices/biases of the interviewer(s). A good company trains interviewer how to interview ppl.

We were told that we are there to make him/her comfortable and to find out whathe knows and how he can solve problems rather than flaunting what we knew. If you see junior & senior on the same panel, often you'll find junior is trying to impress his senior or colleague while interviewing you. Kind of gets nasty when u r competing with someone who has already been hired.

Often companies say that their ppl are their real assets, but only a few invest time & sensible resources in hiring the "right" people. Most assess based on silly, external, irrelevant labels.

You read Joel's articles/blogs on hiring ppl? Often I feel I (or most programmers at heart) could come up with almost sth simlar if I had to write it myself!! (but who would read it? )

I has Accenture interview today at 9:30 am, happened to be at Some Social institute at New Delhi, when I entered the hall, I saw two ladies shouting at people to settle down and go back of the hall and come one by one for registration, I was shocked at such unprofessional behavior, showing no courtesy to the candidates who have come from distant places, people who traveled from far distances were denied entry as they were late by few minutes as they claim the entry test timings were 9-10AM but was mentioned nowhere not in email sent by consultant or the website. They yelled at them shouting GET OUT of the hall instead of taking their CVs and requesting them politely.

After this I still decided to go ahead with the interview, Some mostly core and few jsp / servlets question, out of 30 I would have got 24-28 correct, to my surprise i was told that I did not clear Round 1. I dont believe this either the cut off was 27-28 or they tallied my answer sheet with the .net answers.

But anyway, my result does not as much as the attitude / disrespect and chaotic environment I witnessed today, unless companies like Accenture learn the basic etiquette of conducting interview we should avoid them at any cost.

Seems that discussion is bot off the topic...

I guess, Pooja must have decided which company to avoid , by now

Can we discuss about LogicaCMG and ITC ? Both are in Bangalore with ITC also in Kolkata.

Pooja, which location you got the offer for ?

Thats completely incorrect. I have worked with acccenture for years and have personally conducted interviews. Its definitely not outsources, at least it wasnt till the time I was there(which is quite recent).

Anyways although I do not completely endorse the comments above, I won't be surprised if they are true

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
