JDBC ResultSet Applet issue

Hello All,
Applet newbie.
I'm trying to set up my GUI with specific drop down boxes depending on login information. I already have this information in a SQL table so my plan is to have my applet query the database on init so that the appropriate choices are added.
The db connection is fine and the applet works with hard coded values, but whenever I try to set it up with the query I get a "applet notinited" with a java.lang.NullPointerException. This error is browser independent.
I can pull values out of a regular java application and manipulate them so I am wondering if this is an applet specific issue.

hi monty ...it would be better if u could post u'r init() method out here so that we could debug the thing in a better manner . By the way have u tried using the same code in start()?
