Connection to oracle 8i from servlet using Apache Tomcat 4.1

Connection to database is working fine with sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver without configuring the apache tomcat webserver.
The databse is getting mounted automatically whenever a request is made to the servlet.. and all the sql statements are woring fine

But using oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver, its not getting connected.
Surprisingly it is not even throwing any sort of exception at the time of execution. Whenever a request is made to the concern webserver(apache), only output of the servlet is getting displayed. The databse is not even getting mounted.
For oracle connectivity,I guess i have set the classpath properly, which is given below:
set classpath=%classpath%;c:\ApacheTomcat\common\lib\classes12.jar
....Please help me out....
Thanks
Waiting anxiously
