Speaking from memory, the book does discuss JDBC best practice and performance issues like always closing connections and so forth in a finally clause, being sane with LOBs, batch updates, concurrency levels and so forth. But on the other hand it doesn't (and shouldn't) go into much depth about database and driver specifics. Schema design and optimisation and writing performant SQL aren't covered at all.

The name of the book itself is "JDBC API Tutorial and Reference, Third Edition"... I guess it would emphasize on the APIs and some kinda how to use them...

Hi Pradeep,
The reference part of the book has an overview section for each class and interface in the JDBC API. These sections include best practices and things to avoid when appropriate.

Hi Sainudheen,
The book does not have a separate section on performance tuning, but there is information about what affects performance in various sections throughout the book.

That would be an excellent way to cover this topic. Thanks Maydene Fisher.

I think such kind of topic somewhat depends on a particular database...
Different databases are dealing their performance tune on their own ways...
