Problem while storing Japanese characters in Oracle 9i

Hi,

I am trying to store Japanese characters with Oracle 9i as the backend, with UTF-8 as the character set. The frontend used is JSP, which also has been given a character set encoding of UTF-8 using the following tags :

<%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" %>
<META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">

But the Japanese text input from the JSP get converted into the ASCII character set when I store them in the db.

Is there a way to set a property at the time of the JDBC connection which can help me store the Japanese text in UTF-8 format into the DB? I would greatly appreciate it if any of you can let me know such a way or any other workaround to this problem.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers

Hima M,

Welcome to JavaRanch!

We ain't got many rules 'round these parts, but we do got one. Please change your display name to comply with The JavaRanch Naming Policy.

We request something more than a single letter for the last name.

Thanks Pardner! Hope to see you 'round the Ranch!
