Hi,
Has there been any change to handling logins & maintaining cookies at Javaranch. Earlier, if i was logged in once, even on restart of my machine i did not have to login again. But since the past couple of days, on closing my browser(while being logged in) and then opening another browser for Javaranch, i have to login again. Looks like this has got to do something with cookies. I havent done any changes to my IE which might have resulted in this behaviour.

After i started seeing this behaviour, i thought of trying a few things and changed the following setting in IE:

- From Internet Options -> Privacy tab, clicked on Advanced button & *checked* the "Override automatic cookie handling" checkbox (the radio buttons for First Party & Third Party Cookies was set to "Accept").

After doing these changes, i tried out my usecase again & it looked to work fine. I logged in from one browser, closed it & then opened another browser for Javaranch. I could see that i was logged in.

We haven't changed anything on this end that we're aware of. Though sometimes our host changes things without our advance knowledge. I think if that were the case, then many others would also be affected by these changes, and we'll be hearing more about the problem shortly. Otherwise, I would guess that there was some sort of configuration change on your end. So far you seem to be the only one affected. I for one can still restart my machine and remain logged in to JavaRanch. So from my perspective nothing seems to have changed. But maybe it has - if so, we won't know more unless others report problems. Either way, the problem is currently resolved for you, yes? Thanks for the information about the solution you found; it may be helpful to others in the future.

I had a similar problem some months ago. I assumed that it had to do with some automatic windows update or something. Fixed it by switching to Firefox. If only the "close tab" button weren't at the wrong position...

I cant rule out that factor even in my case, more so because i remember there was some update related to security on my machine. Dont know what exactly the update was because these updates, sort of happen almost every fortnight.
