Leaving your company after 6 months...

Hi, I'm on my 4th month in my company now... I really don't intend to stay anylonger than 6 months anymore (a lot of things have happened) and I'm thinking if I should inform them or just keep it to myself. This is my first job, but the workplace, the time and other pressures in life contribute to my decision. Do you have any advice?

I am also planning to leave my company...But I dont find any worthwhile reason to leave...but I feel like I should quit...

Can Ranchers suggest some reasons to quit which I can say to potential employer..

My total experience is 6 months..But the pay is better than industry average..Am getting around 5 lakh...The only problem is the Brand name...Not many people would have heard my company name...
But the learning experience had been good...so far within 6 months I got a good exposure in Ajax,struts,jsp,servlets,spring etc...

The only reason to quit would be the brand image...What do you seniuors feel..When you interview someone does the brand name of the company the person work influence your decision(Please be honest).....??

Timothy, what you will do if you face same kind of work load in your new job? Ok you can quit that job also and join new job and due your bad luck again if you thrid job also have same kind of work load, what you will do? Where do we end?

I feel you should be happy for having work. In my previous companies I have seen many freshers who used to feel bad and worried because they do not have work. They used to feel very insecured because no work.

I suggest you to stay in present company. May be in another 2 to 4 months you will get more understanding about your work and the work becomes easier for you, then you may not feel so much work pressure. For freshers more work means more opportunities to learn.

Rambo, your skills, attitude are more important then from which company you are coming. The brand name may be helpful when shortlisting your resume but in interview it would not influence the interviewer.

Hi, it seems that my question was not well understood... I'm not planning on leaving the company right now... I'm planning on leaving the company after 2 months (which would be the end of my contract).

Still your question is not clear to me .

Timothy has already decided to leave. He is asking if he should inform his employer straight away or wait.

IMO, if I were fulfilling a critical role, and it would be very hard to replace me when I leave, I would let my employer know early, giving them a reasonable amount of time to find a replacement.

If not, it is prudent to wait until the latest time, as stated in your contract.

if u r getting good work to learn then u should not leave the company just because of brand name.

If you really dont want to continue, then you should start looking for other options.

You should however have a good reason, so that the next recruiter understands what your problem is. In that case all that would really matter to them is to see if you are qualified for that position you had applied for and your attitude.

I don't think you should inform your current employer earlier, but you should give them a two weeks notice. Never burn the bridge as you might have to go back your previous company and its the right thing to do.

This jump(after 6 months) is ok if you do it once or maybe twice. A regular pattern tends to potray instability.

Yes, You should never burn your bridges. Always give tactful reason for leaving personal problem, going overseas, etc. Some companies are pretty understanding and may offer you some time off, provide you with extra training etc. When you start a new job, the first few months are always stressful until you settle in. Once you settle in, everything may fall into place. Having said that, you are the one who can fully understand your circumstance, and make an appropriate decision. But my advice is that:

1. Explain your circumstance to your manager and see what comes out of it.
2. If you strongly feel, that you should leave, then be diplomatic (never burn bridges).
3. If you are undecided, then give yourself some more time to see if things get better. More often than not, it will get better.

Thanks for your advices. I work on a night shift and I find it hard to recover from everytime I get sick. I've also made so many absences though I always inform them and have been very honest to them about my situation.

Your health is more important then your career. So go ahead with all alternatives. Its always good to leave a employer with good relation. So do inform them and complete all formalities before leaving them.

Hi, I just left my company before finishing my contract. I really couldn't bear to stay awake at night... I'm currently unemployed again, but I'm feeling ok. I had a good talk with the HR before I left and have mentioned in the interview that I may still consider coming back. Although I'm quite confident with my skills now... Having been knowleddeable of the following...

* JSP and Servlets
* JSTL
* EL
* Struts Framework

I'm still a bit anxious about finding a better job and a better pay. I'm taking a week or two to rest for sure... I'm kinda fed up with web applications, I'd like to do more java applications than web apps since I find it more challenging and more rewarding. If ever I get to work with web apps again, I hope EJB or other stuff would get involved rather than the once I already know... Thanks everyone!
