This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
I'd like to hear how people are using EJB server's? What else is in the system? What other servers, databases, clients? How do they relate to the EJB server? How did you intergate them? I want to understand how you use them, specifically how you use them wrt to other components in the multi-tiered system. My motivation is the same as that which prompted me to ask my other question today: EJB Middleware Integration at http://www.javaranch.com/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000483.html Thanks.
Hi Mark Well, for starters...We are using WebSphere and Weblogic Application Servers as my EJB servers and Oracle 8i as database. The clients are JSP/XML/HTML pages. These clients interact with a servlet (again deployed on the same servers) which would be calling a session or a combo of session and entity for business logic. I don't know how I can describe further. May be I can give you a project scenario if you want. Regards Suneel
Hi Mark, We are using Weblogic 5.1 with WebSphere also. Actually we are are using these items almost the exactly the same as Suneel with our clients the same clients (add in Servlets). I think this is the most common scenario. Best Regards, Matt
Why are you using both websphere and weblogic? just experimental?

So it sounds like everyone's using them as the for the raw BL, with a DB backend and a JSP front end. (Which, as I understand it, is the most common usage.) I've been hoping to hear from someone who hooked up an EJB server to some other application server, e.g. "we have a JSP front end to an EJB server which talks to a Siebel Server." I want to understand how and why it would hook into another server.
