Hey don't fell low. Express yourself to them. No need to apologize if you are right. Also tell them the exact problem more clearly or mail them so that they think that you were not really getting out of box.
Besk of luck!

Working with people with different culture / country / language / accent can create big problems sometime.
In past when I was working with a German company, nobody is able to grapes during talks that, whether a German director is asking a question or just saying a fact - especially when he is speaking in a short sentences.
Sometime when he is asking question and everybody felt that he is saying fact, everybody says Ok, good or really and he get angry.
Sometime when he saying fact and everybody feels that he is asking a question, everybody start replying with answer and he get angry.

It is helpful to understand that a human's blood-sugar level is playing a big role in how they interpret written text. The most important elements of effective communication are visual and audio effects. When these elements are removed and communication is occuring via written word, much of what is missing is filled in by the reader's imagination. The emotionanl state of the reader along with their blood-sugar level is governing how and what they are thinking (while they are reading), and sometimes what is imagined is not inline with the author's intentions or purpose.
The situations above most likely is significantly amplified when the writer and the reader come from different cultures and possibly different spoken languages.
(oops! this post is 6 years old, anyways, I already typed so much )
Your situation is ok compared to what I had faced few days back. I did some work and sent email requesting my colleage (aka domain expert) to validate my assumptions, you know what! I got a blasting email saying that I've to do everything by myself since I've db, server and xmls etc.
This damaged my mood during new year and I couldn't celebrate new year. But I stayed cool and escalated the fact to my team lead. I told my lead that I cannot learn business all by myself, I requested him to either give documentation or knowledge transfer from some other person. Then, yesterday this colleague invited me for a coffee and apologized.
These thinks really disturbs your mood but do not loose emotion and balance. Stay cool and play by the rules.
Btw, did you put your manager in cc when sending the report?
