Other technology? Which other technologies were you thinking about?

JDBC is standard for accessing database from java applications .
you can not use anything else toaccess a database from java application except JDBC.

so asking what is JDBC advantage over other technologies (.Net) bring the question that ehat is advantages of .Net over Java EE.

from which view point you want to know the advantages of JDBC over other technologies ?

Though good advice to follow, this is not strictly true. You could access a database via another route, if you were that way inclinded. Many databases these days support the TCP protocol for example, so accessing them using this should be possible. After all, JDBC drivers themselves need to connect to the database somehow.

You are correct though that comparing JDBC with MS solution is a non-starter.

With whatever database access route that other langauge uses (for example C++ might use ODBC). Without knowing the language its going to be hard to help. Though if you are not using Java, you are really posting this question in the wrong forum.
