Do you want a example of how to use a connection pool? Or how to implement a connection pool? Or do you want a explaination of why a connection pool is beneficial?

Is this an academic exercise?

Typically you would not write your own connection pool. There are several packages that can provide this functionality. If you are using a app server, it probably has this built in.
