Hi All,

I am experienced in J2EE development, I am now thinking to enter in some other technical area probably SAP, I heard that to learn and enter into SAP line one should have domain knowledge. Is it true? How can I fit into SAP line with this J2EE background. I have around 3.5 years of experience in J2EE.

I appreciate suggessions on this.

Thanks & Regards,
Ganesh.

Domain knowledge is added advantage but not compulsory. You can think technologies like NetWeaver in SAP(I am not sure what exactly NetWeaver is) where you can use your J2EE skills.

As far as offshore SAP work is concerned, most of it involves ABAP(Advanced Business Application Programming) coding.Yes,there are functional consultants in SAP.SAP projects are generally long duration and serve very big(Fortune 500)clients.
Most of the time, guys 'entering' SAP start with ABAP coding and then move on to become functional consultants onsite.

Netweaver platfrom is based on Java/J2EE. So if you want to continue in the same line, you can very well think of joining SAP Labs.

One small correction! SAP Netweaver Developer Studio is an IDE built by SAP over the Eclipse platform.

Sap Netweaver is a integration tool which is based on open standard like J2EE,SOAP,XML.

It uses all j2ee specification.Depending upon the the component the technologies plays the role. For portal it require java + servlet;for exchange infrastructure it require webservices and ejb.

Netweaver provides technology as well as domain
